Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy is a type of cancer treatment that harnesses the power of the body's immune system to recognize, target, and destroy cancer cells. Unlike traditional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy, which directly target cancer cells, immunotherapy works by enhancing or restoring the body's natural defenses against cancer.

The immune system is capable of recognizing and eliminating abnormal cells, including cancer cells. However, cancer cells can evade detection by the immune system or suppress its activity, allowing tumors to grow and spread. Immunotherapy aims to overcome these mechanisms of immune evasion and enhance the immune response against cancer.
