Acute Leukemia AML

Acute leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow and progresses rapidly, leading to the overproduction of immature blood cells called blasts. These abnormal cells crowd out healthy blood cells, impairing the body's ability to produce functional red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

There are two main types of acute leukemia: acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). ALL originates in the lymphoid cells, which are responsible for producing lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell involved in the immune response. AML, on the other hand, originates in the myeloid cells, which produce red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
